Anita Shih is an artist living and working in San Francisco, CA. She works primarily with oil and watercolor paints.
Her main series of paintings, Retouch, is approached in a time-consuming photorealistic style using flawed source photos. In the original photographs, lights streak in exposures that are too long; colors are distorted because the film was processed in the wrong chemicals. The cheap plastic camera used to capture the images is unpredictable.
Investing energy in directly translating each imperfect photograph is intended to attach new importance to the image.
